Suspected Drone Strike Kills Up To 10 Near Pakistan-Afghan Border

A U.S. drone strike near the Pakistan-Afghan border has killed up to 10 suspected militants and wounded 14 others.

Nasir Khan, the assistant political agent of the Bara subdistrict in Pakistan's Khyber tribal district, said on May 14 that the strike targeted militants in Afghanistan's Nazian district, which has become a sanctuary for fighters from the Pakistani Taliban and the Lashkar-e Islam group.

Political administration officials in the Khyber tribal district told an RFE/RL correspondent that the suspected drones fired three missiles.

Khan said the 10 militants killed and the others who were wounded belonged to the Pakistani Taliban.

Ahmad Zai Abdulzai, a spokesman for Afghanistan's Nangarhar Province, where Nazian district is located, said that only four militants were killed in the attack.

There has been no comment so far from the Pakistani or Afghan Taliban about the attack.

RFE/RL has been declared an "undesirable organization" by the Russian government.
