NATO Drone Strike Kills Taliban Commander In Afghan East

A NATO drone strike has killed a Taliban field commander in eastern Afghanistan.

Ahmad Farid, a police official in the eastern Kunar Province, identified the commander as Hajji Attaullah.

The NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) confirmed the December 3 air strike.

The attack took place in Kunar's remote Manogi district near the border with Pakistan.

Attaullah was believed to be an important commander of the Taliban-allied Salafi fighters in Kunar.

In October, Haji Dawran, another important Salafi commander in the province, was killed in a NATO drone strike.

The mountainous province of Kunar is home to many extremist factions some of whom are allied with the Taliban.
