Antifascist Youth Leader Shot Dead In Moscow

Ivan Khutorsky, the leader of the Russian antifascist movement Antifa, has been shot dead in Moscow, RFE/RL's Russian Service reports.

Anatoly Bagmet, head of the Prosecutor-General's Office's Investigative Committee, said Khutorsky's body was found late on November 16 at the entrance to his home.

He said the committee is exploring several possible motives for the murder, including Khutorsky's antifascist activities.

Khutorsky, 26, had received many death threats from ultranationalists and radical groups and was physically attacked twice in 2005.

Aleksei Grigoryev, an Antifa activist, told RFE/RL that Khutorsky's murder proves that "it is still dangerous to express antifascist opinion in Russia."

Grigoryev said Khutorsky is the 10th antifascist activist to have been killed in Russia in recent years.
