U.S. authorities have filed charges against an Iranian national accused of plotting to illegally buy and export military-grade airplane parts to Iran.
The formal charges against Alireza Moazami Goudarzi came after an indictment was filed in a Manhattan court on November 14.
U.S. officials say Goudarzi contacted an unnamed U.S. supplier in October 2010 by e-mail, inquiring about the purchase of airplane parts to ship to Iran.
The U.S. supplier contacted the U.S. government, triggering an undercover operation.
Goudarzi was arrested in Malaysia on October 24 and extradited to the United States.
If convicted, Goudarzi faces up to 105 years in prison.
