U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner has said he doesn't think he would be asked to stay at his post should President Barack Obama win a second term in office later this year.

Geithner was speaking in an interview with Bloomberg Television in which he said he considered resigning from his post in August in the wake of the bruising congressional battle over raising the debt ceiling.

He said he didn't think Obama would ask him to stay if he won reelection in November.

Geithner is the only remaining top official from Obama's original economic team, and for three years has been a frequent target of critics of the administration's economic policies.
