Man Arrested In U.S. For Allegedly Supporting Uzbek Militants

A man has been arrested in the United States for allegedly being a member of an Islamic militant group seeking to overthrow the government in Uzbekistan.

Authorities say Bakhtiyor Jumaev was arrested in Philadelphia on charges of supporting the Islamic Jihad Union (IJU), branded a terrorist group by the U.S. State Department.

U.S. authorities say Jumaev was a close friend of Jamshid Muhtorov, who was arrested at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport on a similar charge in January.

U.S. prosecutors said Muhtorov was attempting to fly overseas to fight on behalf of the IJU.

Jumaev faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted.
