Law-enforcement and security agencies in Indian-controlled Kashmir are tightening security ahead of a concert by the Bavarian State Orchestra with Indian-born conductor Zubin Mehta.

The German Embassy in India is organizing the event.

Ambassador Michael Steiner told a news conference on September 5 the aim of the concert was to "reach the hearts of Kashmiris with a message of hope and encouragement."

Some 1,500 invited guests will be attending the September 7 concert on the shore of Lake Dal in Srinagar.

Kashmir is divided between Pakistan and India and violence there is common. Separatist groups have already threatened to disrupt the event.
