13 February 2006 -- UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan is scheduled to meet with U.S. President George W. Bush for talks at the White House later today.

The two are expected to discuss the situation in Iraq where the ruling Shi'ite alliance on 12 February nominated interim Prime Minister Ibrahim Ja'fari to lead the country's first full-term government as prime minister.

Bush and Annan are also expected to focus on ongoing anger in the Muslim world over drawings of the Prophet Muhammad. On 12 February, Annan called for a calm dialogue to replace what he called the current "megaphone diplomacy." U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice warned the unrest sparked by the cartoons could spiral out of control.

Also likely up for discussion today between Bush and Annan is Iran's controversial nuclear program.
