14 February 2006 -- Pakistani police today fired tear gas to disperse hundreds of students who entered Islamabad's heavily guarded diplomatic enclave to protest against the publication of cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad in Europe.
The protesters were among some several thousand who attended a march in Islamabad that was organized by lawmakers.
The students were driven back after they had approached the Indian and British high commissions and smashed windows of cars and a bank.
U.S. Embassy staffers were confined to their compound until police expelled the demonstrators from the fenced-off diplomatic quarter.
