Twenty years ago, the Chornobyl (Chernobyl) disaster spread a cloud of radiation over Europe and fear of nuclear power in the minds of consumers. Many countries froze or decided to phase out their civilian nuclear programs. But nervousness about the atom has given way to worries about high oil prices, global warming, and how to meet the ever-increasing demand for electricity. Today, nuclear power is making a comeback.
