August 23, 2006 -- The U.S. Marine Corps will soon begin ordering thousands of its troops back to active duty because of a shortage of volunteers for Iraq and Afghanistan.
U.S. President George W. Bush has authorized the Marines to recall up to 2,500 inactive reserves at a time.
The "involuntary recall," announced on August 22, is the first for the Marines since 2003.
