Iran Chooses Film On Women's Issues For Oscar Bid
(RFE/RL)
October 1, 2006 -- Reports from Iran say "Border Cafe," a film directed by Kambuzia Partovi, has been selected to represent the Islamic republic's cinema at next year's Academy Awards, in the best foreign film category.
"Border Cafe" tells the story of a recently widowed woman who decides to run her husband's truck-stop restaurant near a border village while fending off solicitations of her brother-in-law.
Only five candidates will be selected as Oscar nominees and the winner announced at a ceremony in the United States in February.
