Turkey Discusses Algerian 'Genocide' Law
Armenians in 2005 marked the 90th anniversary of the start of the 'genocide' with a torchlight march through Yerevan (ITAR-TASS)
October 11, 2006 -- Turkish lawmakers today discussed proposals to recognize as genocide the killing of Algerians in colonial France.
The move is seen as retaliation against a French bill that would, if passed, make it a crime to deny that the massacres of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire during World War I was genocide. Offenders would face fines and a jail term.
