July 31, 2007 -- The speaker of Georgia's parliament has warned that
Tbilisi may boycott the 2014 Winter Olympics in the Russian resort of
Sochi if Moscow goes ahead with plans to buy building materials for
Olympic facilities from the Georgian separatist region of Abkhazia.
Nino Burjanadze made the remark in an interview published today in the Russian daily "Vremya novostei."
Abkhazia, located close to Sochi on the Black Sea coast, broke away from Georgia after fighting in 1992-93 and enjoys Russia's backing.
