Iran Convicts U.S. Journalist Of Spying
An Iranian court has convicted Iranian-American journalist Roxana Saberi of espionage and sentenced her to eight years in prison, according to her relatives and lawyer.
Saberi worked as a freelance reporter for news organizations including the U.S. public broadcaster, National Public Radio, and the BBC.
She was
put on trial
on April 13 and initially accused of working without press credentials.
Saberi's lawyer, Abdolsamad Khorramshahi, says that he will appeal the verdict.
