Iraqis Win Appeal For Torture Inquiry Against U.K. Troops

A British court has ruled in favor of a group of more than 100 Iraqi civilians who are demanding a new public inquiry into allegations of torture against British soldiers.

Judges at the Court of Appeal in London overturned a decision by a lower court, which supported the government's refusal to order an investigation into claims of torture in British-controlled detention centers after the 2003 invasion of Iraq.

The ruling on November 22 ordered the Ministry of Defense to reconsider. The ministry said it will examine the judgment "very carefully."
