Sunni Militants Launch Deadly Attack on Police In Iraq's Ramadi

Sunni militants in the Iraqi city of Ramadi have staged a deadly attack on a government compound, stirring fresh fears that violence may rise following the withdrawal of U.S. forces last month.

At least four people were killed when the militants, wearing military uniforms and vests rigged with explosives, stormed a compound that serves as the headquarters for local police and several federal security agencies.

At least one of the attackers detonated his explosives at the entry to the compound, while others shot their way in, where they remain locked in clashes with Shi'ite-dominated security forces.

The French AFP news agency cites a provincial spokesperson as saying as many as 10 people may have died in the initial wave of violence, which comes a day after a suicide attacker targeting Shi'a killed 53 people on the outskirts of the southern city of Basra.
