Turkish authorities have expelled members of a Ukrainian feminist group from the country after they staged a topless protest to mark International Women's Day on March 8.
Turkey's Anatolia news agency reports four women from the Femen rights group were placed on a return flight to Kyiv on March 9, one day after they were detained by police for gathering topless in a popular tourist area in Istanbul and chanting slogans to protest domestic violence and acid attacks against women in Turkey.
A member of the group told AP that the protest was meant to highlight the sufferings of women in Muslim countries.
The Femen demonstration came as the Turkish parliament approved a package of laws aimed at better protecting women and children from abuse.
