Influential U.S. Senator John Kerry has called on Pakistan to do more to wipe out terrorist bases on its soil, Pakistan's "Daily Times" and other media reported.

Washington has long accused Islamabad of doing little against insurgents operating on its territory and who frequently launch raids into neighboring Afghanistan.

Speaking to a congressional hearing, the Democratic senator from Massachusetts said it was "unacceptable to have a zone of immunity for acts of war" against international forces inside Afghanistan.

Kerry said Pakistan needed to be "more assertive and more cooperative" and suggested other measures should be considered if Islamabad doesn't do more.
