Pakistan Probe Finds Former Envoy Responsible For Secret Memo

A Pakistani judicial investigation has concluded that the country's former ambassador to the United States did write a secret memo seeking U.S. help to thwart a feared military coup after the killing of Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden in a U.S. raid last year.

The former envoy, Husain Haqqani, was summoned to appear before the Supreme Court in two weeks time.

Haqqani, who resigned from his post after the scandal broke and is currently living in the United States, in a statement said the commission report was "political and one-sided."

Haqqani was a close aide to President Asif Ali Zardari and the secret memo allegations weakened the civilian government at a time of tensions between the United States and Pakistan over bin Laden's killing.
