Ice hockey star Evgeni Malkin of Russia has won the Hart Trophy as the National Hockey League's most valuable player for the 2011-12 season.

The Pittsburgh Penguins center and this season's NHL scoring champion was awarded the honor at the NHL awards ceremony in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Malkin also collected the Art Ross Trophy as the league's top scorer after netting 50 goals and passing out 59 assists during the campaign.

Malkin, who turns 26 next month, beat out rival top performers Tampa Bay Lightning forward Steven Stamkos and New York Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist to claim the most valuable player prize in the NHL, considered the world's premier professional ice hockey league.
