The television station owned by Georgian tycoon-turned-opposition leader Bidzina Ivanishvili says it has brought in former CNN news anchor Larry King as an adviser ahead of crucial elections next month.

A statement issued by TV9 quotes King as saying he hopes to lend his "voice to the cause of media freedom in Georgia."

TV9 was launched by the opposition businessman in May this year in an attempt to challenge the dominance of TV stations seen as loyal to the Georgian authorities.

King ended his long-running CNN chat show "Larry King Live" in 2010 but this year set up a website for his interview broadcasts.

There is no information how much King will be paid for his services.
