A prominent Belarusian opposition journalist living in Sweden has been charged with the attempted murder of her former husband.

Swedish media reports that Volha Klaskouskaya is accused of trying to stab her ex-husband in Stockholm during an argument.

Klaskouskaya's Swedish lawyer told RFE/RL that her client was arrested on March 30 and will remain in pretrial detention until April 15.

Last month, Swedish immigration officials ruled that Klaskouskaya and her 11-year-old daughter from a previous relationship should be deported to Belarus for violations of immigration regulations.

The authorities said her 8-month-old son could stay with in Sweden with his Swedish father.

Klaskouskaya has been living outside of Belarus since 2006.

She was last in her home country in 2011 to support her brother, who was jailed for taking part in a protest against President Alyaksandr Lukashenka.
