Russian Traveler To Finish Solo Rowing Trip Across Pacific

A Russian adventurer, who has been on a solo rowing trip across the Pacific Ocean since December, is expected to complete his crossing on May 31.

Fyodor Konyukhov's family said he is hoping to reach the Australian coast to successfully finish the voyage that began at the Chilean port of Concon on December 22.

Konyukhov's son, Oscar, who also is the head of the project, said on May 30 that his father is about 74 kilometers from the Australian resort city of Mooloolaba.

Sponsors for the 17,000-kilometer journey include the Russian Geographical Society and the Russian state-run news agency ITAR-TASS.
