Mass Arrests Reported At Uzbekistan's Customs Service

Some 100 employees of Uzbekistan's State Customs Committee (UDBK) have been arrested on corruption charges.

The online news portal uzmetronom.com reported on June 27 that the arrests were conducted by Uzbekistan's National Security Service.

The report comes days after sources in Tashkent told RFE/RL that the chief of the UDBK's Anticontraband Directorate, Aziz Abdurakhmonov, and his deputy, Aziz Khasanov, had been arrested in the Uzbek capital earlier this month.

Uzbek authorities have not commented on the reports.

RFE/RL has been declared an "undesirable organization" by the Russian government.
