A Dutch court has ruled that the Netherlands is liable for 300 of the some 8,000 Bosnian Muslims killed in the Srebrenica massacre in 1995.
The Hague court ruled that the Dutch government should compensate the families of some 300 men who were given by Dutch UN peacekeepers to Bosnian Serb forces and executed.
Judge Larissa Alwin said the Dutch peacekeeping battalion should have known that the men handed over on July 13, 1995, would be killed because there was evidence of Bosnian Serbs committing war crimes.
Alwin said that "by cooperating in the deportation of these men, [they] acted unlawfully."
The more than 300 victims were among some 8,000 Muslim men killed after Bosnian Serb forces under General Ratko Mladic's command captured Srebrenica.
More than 100,000 people died in the 1992-95 Bosnian war.
