Several women and their children have held a demonstration against the confiscation of their property by the Kazakh government.
The protesters gathered in front of the presidential office in the capital, Astana, on July 23, demanding to meet with presidential office chief Nurlan Nyghmatulin.
The protesters were allowed to enter the building and met with some Kazakh officials.
The women told them that if they are not allowed to meet with Nyghmatulin they will spend the night in front of the building to observe the Islamic Night of Revelation, or Laylat al-Qadr, there.
The protesters have held similar actions in Astana in recent months.
The women say local authorities routinely confiscate land from people and justify the move by citing "state necessity," giving little or no compensation.
They said that often the confiscated land is used to build private homes for authorities or businessmen.
