Online News Website Editor Interrogated In Russia

The editor-in-chief of the independent Russian news website Amurburg.ru says he has been detained by security officers following a trip to Georgia.

Oleg Potapenko told RFE/RL that he was interrogated in the airport of Khabarovsk in Russia’s Far East on July 28 upon his return from a forum of nongovernmental organizations in Tbilisi.

Potapenko said the officials took away his tablet and searched his luggage.

They later returned his belongings, saying "no materials of extremist character had been found."

Potapenko quoted the interrogators as asking questions about the organizers of the Tbilisi forum and about its participants.

Potapenko described the search and interrogation as "psychological pressure" on him.

RFE/RL has been declared an "undesirable organization" by the Russian government.
