TEXT SIZE - +
MINSK -- A person arrested by Belarusian police on June 12 for a failed bank robbery was identified as South African Dirk Prinsloo, who is wanted in his homeland for alleged sexual assaults, RFE/RL's Belarus Service reports.

Prinsloo and two accomplices tried to rob a bank in the Belarusian city of Baranovichi on June 10 but had to flee the bank empty-handed after a bank worker called police.

Prinsloo left South Africa in 2006 facing numerous charges of rape and sexual abuse.

It is not clear if Belarusian authorities will extradite Prinsloo to South Africa.

He may face trial first in Belarus for attempted bank robbery.
