Russia Deports 19 Suspected Terrorists To Uzbekistan In 2006

March 29, 2006 – Since the start of this year, Russia has deported to Uzbekistan 19 people wanted on terrorism charges, the first deputy director of Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) said today.


Sergei Smirnov said all 19 were members of the banned Islamic group Hizb ut-Tahrir.


Smirnov was in Uzbekistan to discuss the fight against terrorism with security officials from the six members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). In addition to Russia and Uzbekistan, the regional grouping includes China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan.
