May 11, 2006 -- Polish Prime Minister Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz has denied reports saying Poland was seeking to join a controversial project by Russian and German companies to build a gas pipeline in the Baltic Sea.
Marcinkiewicz reiterated that Poland considers the project a threat to its energy security.
Poland's "Rzeczpospolita" daily and Germany's "Suddeutsche Zeitung" have both recently reported that Marcinkiewicz suggested this week to German Chancellor Angela Merkel that Poland was looking to become involved in the pipeline project.
