Pakistani police say a bomb blast tore through a residential area for police officers and their families in northwestern Pakistan, killing at least 12 people and injuring more than 50 others.

The explosion destroyed apartments used for police in the Kohat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province.

Khalid Khan, a top administrative official in Kohat, said, "Most of the victims were women and children."
