Clash Erupts In Afghan Town After Taliban Raid

KHOST (Reuters) -- Afghan forces clashed with a group of Taliban fighters who mounted an attack on a government building today in the southeastern town of Gardez an official and residents said.

Rohullah Samoon, a spokesman for the governor of Paktia Province, confirmed there had been a clash, but gave no further details and said nothing about casualties.

Small and heavy arms fire was heard in the heart of the town after a group of Taliban insurgents launched an attack on a key police building located close to other government offices, residents said.
