YEREVAN -- U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has again telephoned Armenian President Serzh Sarkisian to discuss Yerevan and Ankara's ongoing rapprochement, which has been facilitated by the United States, RFE/RL's Armenian Service reports.

A statement issued by Sarkisian's office on September 20 said the two leaders touched upon "issues related to the current stage of the normalization of Turkish-Armenian relations."

It was the second conversation in a month between Yerevan and the State Department.

Clinton has regularly talked to Armenian and Turkish leaders this year in an effort to push forward their fence-mending negotiations.

Her previous phone call with Sarkisian took place on August 21, 10 days before the publication of two draft agreements outlining the establishment of diplomatic relations between Armenia and Turkey and the opening of the two countries' border.

The latest conversation came the day after Yerevan accused Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan of acting against "the letter, spirit, and aims" of those agreements.

Erdogan reportedly said on September 18 that Turkey will not reopen the Armenian border as long as the dispute over the breakaway Nagorno-Karabakh region remains unresolved.
