A German court has convicted four men in a foiled plot to attack U.S. targets in Germany and sentenced them to up to 12 years in prison.

The four included two German converts to Islam, a German citizen of Turkish origin, and a Turkish national. They were arrested in 2007.

During one of the raids, police seized nearly a ton of chemicals to make bombs.

During their 10-month trial, the four self-declared Islamic militants confessed to plotting to attack U.S. citizens and facilities in Germany.

The court in Dusseldorf today convicted three of them of membership in a terrorist organization and of conspiracy to commit multiple murders. Two were jailed for 12 years, the third one for 11.

The fourth defendant was jailed for five years for supporting a terrorist group.
