Iran Charges American Journalist with Espionage

April 8 -- Roxana Saberi, an American freelance journalist for National Public Radio, the BBC and other news organizations, has been detained in Iran since the end of January. Her father told Radio Farda that he met his daughter in Tehran's Evin prison, where she shares a cell with three other inmates. [read in Persian and in English]

 

Iran's Supreme Leader Questioned About Blogger's Death

April 3 -- About 50 Iranian bloggers wrote an open letter to Ayatollah Khamenei questioning last month's death of blogger Omidreza Mirsayafi in prison. One of the signatories told Radio Farda that arresting bloggers for criticizing the regime has become routine in recent years. [read in Persian and in English]

 

Iranian Scholar Barred from Leaving Iran

April 7 -- Mehdi Zakerian, a member of Iran's Center for Scientific Research and Middle East Strategic Studies, has been prevented from leaving the country to attend a conference in Italy. His lawyer told Radio Farda that the conference was on transitional justice in Palestinian territories. Last year, Zakerian was detained and accused of being a spy. Woman To Be Executed for Crime Committed as a Juvenile

April 6 -- Iran is preparing to execute a 23-year-old painter convicted of committing murder when she was 17. Delara Darabi's lawyer told Radio Farda that her client has been in prison for five years. [listen in Persian and read in English]
