LVIV, Ukraine -- Heavy snowfall and storms have left more than 600 towns and villages in Ukraine's Lviv Oblast without electricity, RFE/RL's Ukrainian Service reports.

The outage affected major oil pipelines in the region on the night of October 13.

The regional branch of the Extraordinary Situations Ministry announced that work on restoring electricity has begun.

The water supply in the regional capital, Lviv, was also affected by the conditions.

The storm also caused dozens of traffic accidents in the region and many trees were downed.
