Hundreds Feared Dead In Nigeria Violence

TEXT SIZE - +
Reports say several hundred people are feared to have been killed in an outbreak of violence between religious groups in Nigeria.

Dozens of bodies, including those of women and children, were buried on March 8 in a mass grave in Dogo Nahawa, near the central city of Jos.

Christian residents of the area have accused Muslim herders from surrounding areas of carrying out massacres with machetes and guns on March 7.

Reports quote witnesses as saying the attacks appeared to be reprisals for sectarian killings in January in the region that also left hundreds of people dead. The area of the massacres is located between the mainly Muslim north of Nigeria and the largely Christian south.
