In Serbia, Hidden Racism Rises To The Surface

June 06, 2009
Serbia's Romany minority has been the target of violent attacks and other hate crimes in recent years. But some Romany leaders say that hidden, institutionalized racism presents an even greater danger. Produced by Iva Martinovic of RFE/RL's Balkan Service.

Averko, all your denialism, whitewashing of the Serb side and revisionism doesn't make your denial of the genocide at Srebrenica or of the anti-Bosniak crusade any truer, and as for what really happened at Srebrenica and othere places in Bosnia, for the benefit of the uninitiated, there is the proof.
In its judgment the ICJ has established that the Bosnian Serbs COMMITTED GENOCIDE AGAINST THE BOSNAIKS AT SREBRENICA AND THAT SERBIA WHILE IT HAD THE POWER TO PREVENT THIS GENOCIDE FAILED TO DO SO.
The testimonies of Drazen Erdemovic, perpetrator
And of Hasan NUhanovic, next of kin of victioms.
The Skorpioni video.
Intercepted radio communication of Ratko Mladic with his officers.
Karadzic's statement "These people will disappear from the face of the Earth.
Over 6000 corpses exhumed from mass graves, whose identity has been established, most of which were blindfolded and had their hands tied behind their backs with wire.
You genocidal so-and-so, would you have the NERVE to say that this all is FAKED??? Then you DESERVE to go through what these people had to go, even if only for one day. Maybe you are a little ashamed. But no, your soul is as black as it is empty and your heart is as cold as a stone. Except in what your LOVE for all things CHETNIK, ultraorthodox and Russian Imperialist are concerned. Shame on RFE/RL which fought Rusian Imperialism in the past now to allow its propagandists to spew all their venom and invective against the Bosniaks, the Albanians, teh Georgians and other freedom-loving people here on its very own site!

Well spoken, averko, I knew you would just dismiss everything with invective and you will continue to deny Srebrenica genocide until your last breath. But I don't have to prove anything to you about Srebrenica. The truth is out there for everybody who wants to know it, throwing mud at these teh most pitiable people on Earth will only disqualify you as a decent human being, and the Bosniaks I knew back then who were expelled from ther hometown Zvornik did NOT make up nor fake ANYTHING That has happened to them. I know you can't wait for the Chetniks to finally get rid of the Bosniaks for good. I have perfectly understood you have nothing but hate and contempt for us balije and siptari. For you we are only human trash. Good enough to be massacred and then say there never was a massacre. THat you want to see Greater Serbia consisting of say 90% of th3e former Yugoslavia, and only with pure-blood Serbs in it who can prove their families have all been Christian for the last 500 years. And that Putinachieves what Stalin and Peter I. could not: that Russia rules Europe from the North Cape to Gibraltar, maybe not through force of arms but by turning the gas tap. I wish you would have to live in the same situation as the Bosniaks did in 1992-95 for one single day. And the same situation Georgians ethnically cleansed from that artificial country Abkhazia. Then you would hopefully be a little ashamed. But just as one cannot take in earnest web pages such as Serbianna, one can't take YOU in earnest. I have wondered for a time if you are doing all this for love (for love of a very questionable cause, as I have never thought Russian tyranny to be the cure of the world's problems) or if the Russians pay you that good. But then, from reading the comments from diaspora Chetniks all over the world I have come to the conclusion that like them, you feel for this wretched system such a deep love as the young Japanese kamikaze pilots felt for their country and their Emperor. Well, let me tell you that I too feel this kind of love for the survival of the Bosniaks in Bosnia, despite all the hostility and enmity they are meeting, even though they have done NOTHING to deserve it.

Pardon me, regarding my last submitted comments, that other link on the same topic is dated 6/3.

The overt misinformative bias remains clear.

Kudos to Filip for noting RFE/RL's bias at this 6/13 thread that was created after the 6/6 version:

Likewise with the more erudite of commenters at this thread.

Another long-winded barrage of pro-Bosnian Muslim nationalist babble from someone who has yet to successfully refute what I've said.

In response to that Mr. Averko's comment (and others, I have read his web site and the better one understands some things the more one loathes them. It reads exactly like Russian Television, Serbianna or some other such.) there is no need to throw invective at me and especially in a matter like Srebrenica, where the genocide of the Serbs against the Bosniaks has been proved as much as that is possible, so who continues to deny it can't be taken seriously, even if we assume he were correct on the number of Serb victims elsewhere. And for that I would like to see some conclusivbe proof, like pictures or testimonies, but so far none have ever been produced. I wonder how much the Russians pay this man to do the dirty propaganda work for them. And that I have to waste my time on him. He will continue to stand for teh Rusiian and Greater Serbian cause for as long as he lives, well unfortunately there are many people who think tlike that: that the Japanese Imperial Government of up to August 15th, 1945 did right, that the Soviet Union was a good thing, that the government of the Peoples' Republic of China is wise and enlightened and did very well to suppress the 1989 Tiananmen uprising, that Pol Pot was a good man, that Hitler did many good things for Germany and that Nazism is admirable, and that Greater Serbia is the best that could happen to the Balkans and that Muslims should be expelled from the Balkans. Such people should be hit over their heads - very hard. Again and again. Maybe it could bring some sense to them. But since they keep trying to poison peoples' minds it would be better if they were silenced. In any case they must not be allowed to gain power or the law of the jungle would reign supreme. It would be a step right back into the Dark Ages.

I have not to prove to Michael Averko or to anybody the Srebrenica Genocide. Even in its flawed judgment the ICJ has already ruled that the Serbs committed genocide there. And this is all disgression. This is an article about racism in Serbia, and even if we admit that Roma are as marginalized in Serbia than anywhere else in the Balkans, Slovakia, Russia etc, so that Serbia and the Serbs are no better or worse in this respect than other peoples of the region, the truth is that Serbia started four wars in order to create Greater Serbia and that its particular hate is aimed at the Bosniaks, and only the Bosniaks (well, the Kosovars as well), and it would thus be only just that they got some payback for it, if they do not wish to settle things peacefully and reasonably. And as for Mr. Averko defending the Greater East European Orthodox Co-Prosperity Sphere, well, it's no use try to convince me and others that black is white the Earth is flat and pigs can fly. Why should Mr. KGB Pooty Poot be a better ruler than the "American imperialists" he hates so much. But then he doesn't hate America so much that he would give up his comfortable life in NYC and go to, say, Novosibirsk or some such place.
The ghettoization and fencing-in of the Bosniaks, their reduction to a condition similar to the Palestinians or Tibetans, or better, as a marginalized and subdued underprivileged minority like the Muslims in Greece and Bulgaria or the Roma is NOT going to happen, because the demopgraphics of the region rather indicate the contrary. The only way for the Serbs to achieve a change of borders in the Balkans would be to apply Dr. Karadzic's recipe again, let's see if they dare. I am not quite sure what I should want for people like that that when it comes to that, if they go there as volunteers to defend the Greater Serb cause, I hope they fall into the Bosniaks' hands and suffer in their own flesh what they thought up for the Bosniaks. But then, they would not be in the front line and given the chance they would do what Ratko Mladic has done and order all their Bosniak prisoners to be murdered (if they are boys and men from 11 years up) or raped (if they are girly from 11 years up and reasonably pretty). That's for sure. Now Mr. Averko will say that he of course would never commit genocide, but generally those who deny genocide are inclined to commit genocide if given the chance.
Maybe Mr. Averko would also say that as opposed to the Americans today, in 1979 the Russians only came to help the Afghan people. Some help.

Ah no, of course, dear Michael averko, the Bosniaks in srebrenica and other places committed suicide. The Serb forces were the only ones who conducted themselves with chivalry in that war. And after all, Bosniaks are only islamicied Serbs who mkust be taught by all means that they have to return to their Christian roots. Or go to Turkey, Saudi Arabia or wherever if they insist in not giving up their false faith. And if some Serbs raped Bosniak women, well that happens all the time, also in peace, it's normal in times of war, why ever talk about it? Besides that, Bosnia was a Serb province, if Izetbegopvic's fundamentalists are got rid of and the 600 year old presence of Muslims in that part of the Balkans is physically erased and consigned to oblivion, thern the normal balance of events , history, ethnicity and demography is restored, right? And the world would benefit immensely from Russian rule. After all, a people who developed such graet literature and who has so illustrated leaders as Ivan IV, Peter I., Stalin and Putin and believes in the rule of law - the law that might makes right - can only be good. And the dastardly American imperialists should turn inwards andbecome as isolationist as under Taft etc. Is that what you want me to say, dear Michael? That the cross should chase the Crescent from the Balkans, and that if any Muslims are to be allowed to live there, then only as they do in Greece or Bulgaria, that is, as a marginlized and subdued minority, as second-class citizens. As the Palestinians of Europe. ANd at Srebrenica of course teh Serbs also condiucted themselves with honor, and there were never 8000 victims, maybe only 260, but there had been over 3000 Serb victims before, right? Is that what you want me to say and to take as the gospel truth??? And that I should believe in what Generals Michael Rose and Lewis MacKenzie have to say? That Karadzic and Mladic did right, or at least no worse than all the others? That the establishment of Greater Serbia is right? And that it is Russia's right to bring back Georgia under its sphere of influence? Well, dear Michael, then I also could say that the Earth is flat, pigs can fly, black is white, 2+2=5 (or 3 if you say so). A swell job you are doing, Michael, keep defending Milosevic, Karadzic and Mladic and the Greater Serb and Orthodox cause, I hope that someday you will suffer in your own flesh what the Bosniaks went through, maybe then you would see them from another side after all, and finally show them some comprehension.

Some Serbians think The Cold War End meant
Free hand for Russia expansionist demands.
Think they what happened with Serbia, men?
Except Belgrade - is Serbia German gain?

Russia wasn't Great Power before Peter,
Georgian King’s nephew built for better,
Giving Russians pushkas, army and navy,
By help of nations Russia betray later,
Turning the non-Russians to a graveyard.

Saying they helped Caucasus and Balkans,
Russians marched conquer Constantinople
But lost - leting Germans have orphans,
Created Slavophils and Serbian doormen
To fight in Caucasus or in Sevastopol.

Nicolas Tesla, Serbian Check in the USA,
Albert Einstein, that married a Serbian,
Both with blessing of Romanovs they say,
Were plagiarized, living-out in poverty.

Russia pushed Serbia to Germano-Austria,
Three times made them support imperiobust,
Refused overturn the Mashtrih for CIS-Ugo,
But be bad - for Russia expand its waste.

Stalin advised them too after Second War,
But they smeared. Russia expanded borders.
I advised them too - before last Ugo-maim.
No way, Britain, Austria imperial-restore
Imperio-Russia told Serbs be in the game.

Like Roy Medvedev and some of other Serbs,
For Russia, biting-off Serbia’s own nose,
Bratushka of Imperio-Russia to bitter end,
What get Serbia? Belgrade, ruined AutoUgo?

Konstantin.

No there isn't "conclusive proof" on that point.

there was a good deal of fighting in the area at the time that this was happening.

I'll once again remind the troll who attempts to disparage my character that others besides muyself were found to be correct on other trumped up figures relating to the wars of the last decade in former Yugoslavia.

If anything, the "cowards" are those who deceitfully present dubious opinions (put mildly) as facts.
