ATHENS, June 22 (Reuters) -- U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has cancelled a trip to Greece for an Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe foreign ministers' meeting this weekend because of injury, Greece said on June 22.
Clinton had also been due to meet Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on June 20 during a NATO-Russia ministerial meeting, the first since the war in Georgia last year.
Greece, which currently presides over Europe's top security and rights organisation, said Clinton would miss the informal June 27-28 OSCE meeting on the island of Corfu.
"Today at noon, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton communicated with Foreign Minister Dora Bakoyanni to inform her that due to a recent injury she will not be able to attend," the Greek foreign ministry said in a statement.
On June 19, Clinton had surgery on her elbow which she broke after tripping and falling in the State Department basement.
She has several foreign trips planned in coming weeks, including to Trieste, Italy, for a meeting of Group of Eight foreign ministers. She is also due to attend a conference on Afghanistan to which Iran has been invited.
The Greek Foreign Ministry said Under Secretary William Burns will lead the American delegation in Corfu.
A U.S. State Department spokesman had no comment.
