Observers Of Kyrgyz Presidential Polls Accredited

Incumbent President Kurmanbek Bakiev is running in the July election

BISHKEK (RFE/RL) -- Kyrgyz Central Election Commission Chairman Damir Lisovsky told journalists on June 26 that 90 international observers have been officially registered for the Kyrgyz presidential election, RFE/RL's Kyrgyz Service reports.

According to Lisovsky, two observers from Kazakhstan are among those registered. The election is scheduled for July 23.

The two major contenders are incumbent President Kurmanbek Bakiev and opposition candidate Almazbek Atambayev.
