TEXT SIZE - +
Reports say a 5.8 magnitude earthquake hit southern Iran on July 31, a day after a weaker quake rattled the country's northeast.

The second quake struck in the southern province of Kerman, the epicentre being near the town of Negar. There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.

On July 30, a 5.7 magnitude quake struck northeastern Khorasan Razavi Province, leaving more than 270 people injured.

Iran sits astride several major faultlines in the earth's crust, and is prone to frequent and sometimes devastating earthquakes.
