BISHKEK -- Kyrgyz Prime Minister Igor Chudinov says the U.S. government intends to allocate $21 million to establish an Antiterrorist Center in the country and to strengthen border security, RFE/RL's Kyrgyz Service reports.
Chudinov said the additional money from the United States will also be spent to battle drug trafficking.
He confirmed that NATO's transit center of supplies to Afghanistan located at Manas Airport outside of the capital, Bishkek, will continue to operate.
Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiev had announced earlier this year that the U.S.-led base would be closed, but the decision was reversed when the U.S. agreed to pay more for the base.
