New Ingush President Meets With Family Of Slain Russian Journalist

Yunus-Bek Yevkurov

November 05, 2008

Among the first acts of the new president of Russia's violent Ingushetia region, Yunus-Bek Yevkurov, has been to meet with opposition leaders, as well as with the parents of Magomed Yevloyev, the owner of the independent website ingushetia.org (formerly ingushetiya.ru).

Yevloyev died of a gunshot wound to the head on August 31, hours after being apprehended by police after his arrival at Magas airport on the same plane as discredited former Ingush President Murat Zyazikov.

A preliminary investigation has already ruled that the bullet that killed Yevloyev was fired accidentally. But Yevkurov, a career Russian military intelligence officer, assured Yevloyev's parents that he will personally monitor the investigation into their son's death.
