RFE/RL's Kyrgyz Service Staffer Wins Radio Journalism Award

Eleonora Mambetshakirova of RFE/RL's Kyrgyz Service in Bishkek has won the 2009 Internews-Kyrgyzstan's Aspiration Award in the category of Radio Journalism.

Mambetshakirova received the award for her social feature about breast-feeding and motherhood in Kyrgyzstan. The feature was aired by Radio Azattyk in March 2009.

About 120 submissions by staffers and stringers from 27 TV and radio companies and video production studios in Kyrgyzstan were sent to the Aspiration 2009 competition.

Internews Network in Kyrgyzstan also presented an award to Radio Azattyk's team in 2005.

The awards ceremony was held at the Hyatt Regency Bishkek hotel on September 11.
