TEXT SIZE - +
NAZRAN, Ingushetia -- A counterterrorist regime has been imposed in two villages in the Nazran region of the Russian republic of Ingushetia, RFE/RL's Russian Service reports.

The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) said that insurgents may be hiding in the area around the villages of Ekazhevo and Gazi-Yurt.

Prominent Russian human rights activist Natalya Estemirova was found dead near Gazi-Yurt in mid-July. The village was also the site of the killing of FSB Lieutenant Colonel Alikhan Kalimatov in 2007.

Scores of police, goverment officials, and insurgents have been killed in Ingushetia this year.
