MOSCOW/ST. PETERSBURG -- A group of Russian opposition parties and movements are holding a March of Dissent today, with protest marches being held in several cities nationwide, RFE/RL's Russian Service reports.

Marina Litvinovich, a leader of the opposition coalition Other Russia, told RFE/RL that the activists plan to march along one of Moscow's main streets to demand Prime Minister Vladimir Putin's resignation.

Meanwhile, in St. Petersburg, 10 supporters of the opposition gathered in the city center and announced their intention to give the governor their proposals for dealing with the economic crisis.

Police detained one of the protesters in St. Petersburg, RFE/RL reports.

Russia's Interior Affairs Ministry has officially stated that it will stop all of the unsanctioned gatherings.
