Shooters Said To Have Filmed Attack On Tajik Migrant In St. Petersburg

March 10, 2009
PRAGUE -- The leader of Tajik migrants in St. Petersburg have told RFE/RL's Tajik Service that a group of Russian extremists attacked a 26-year-old Tajik migrant in the city last week, beating him and shooting him in the face while filming the assault.

Nazar Mirzoda says that Tajik migrants provided the license plate of the car in which the attackers left the scene but that police have not yet apprehended anyone.

He added that the bullet was removed and his wounds were not life-threatening.

Mirzoda said that extremists usually post videos of such attacks on their websites. There have been scores of attacks against labor migrants in Russia this year, with dozens of Tajiks having been killed.
