BAKU -- A top U.S. diplomat, Tina Kaidanow, is expected to visit Azerbaijan's capital this week for talks with Azerbaijani officials, RFE/RL's Azerbaijani  Service reports.

The U.S. Embassy in Baku says Kaidanow will hold the talks on October 22-24, and she is also scheduled to meet with representatives of Azerbaijan's NGOs and businesses.

It will be Kaidanow's first visit to Azerbaijan as the U.S. assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian affairs. She replaced Mathew Bryza in that post in August.

Kaidanow visited Armenia this week, where she held talks with Armenian President Serzh Sarkisian and Foreign Minister Edvard Nalbandian.

The major focus of the talks were the recently signed Turkish-Armenian protocols and Nagorno-Karabakh.
