PRAGUE -- A Turkmen-German forum was held this week to develop cooperation on environmental issues, including climate change.

Gunesh Yazgeldiyeva, an expert on Central Asia, told RFE/RL's Turkmen Service that in Turkmenistan the major environmental issues are about saving trees and animals, and that it might be too late to save people because of rising consumption levels in Central Asia and the negative impact on the environment.

The Turkmen government is currently involved in several environmental projects in cooperation with Germany's GTZ and the United Nations Development Program.
